Eight days after the devastating flood disaster on the Nepal-Tibet border, more than 4,200 people remain missing. Families who have lost hope have begun holding symbolic funeral ceremonies, burning straw effigies in place of their deceased relatives’ remains.

Rescue teams are working through rubble at power stations, with 9,300 soldiers clearing roads and evacuating survivors using helicopters above the Trisuli River. The scale of the disaster continues to grow as rescue operations expand across the affected region.

Relatives of the missing are appealing for assistance from technology companies to aid search and rescue efforts. The operation represents one of the largest coordinated rescue efforts in the region’s recent history.
