More than 45,000 internally displaced persons have fled areas recently captured by Houthi rebels in Yemen, who claim to be fighting against ‘Saudi-backed control’, according to reporting by Ynet. Residents described fleeing with only the clothes they wore, abandoning all possessions in their rush to leave.

Eyewitness accounts describe harrowing escape conditions. One resident told the New York Times: ‘We left all our property. Water can only be obtained in containers.’ Another described how 34 people were crammed into a single truck to flee, with women weeping during their escape.

The UN World Food Programme director has highlighted severe budgetary constraints in providing humanitarian assistance to the displaced population, raising concerns about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the conflict zone.
