Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has acknowledged a security failure for the first time following the attempted hijacking of Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was diverted to Israel five days ago. The hijacker, identified as Hammami, had planned to kill the pilot unnoticed and crash the aircraft into Tel Aviv buildings.
Netanyahu has instructed the National Security Council to appoint an overseer to conduct a thorough examination of all security aspects of foreign airline flights. According to the Prime Minister’s office, the head of the National Security Council has been directed to “appoint an inspector to perform a fundamental examination” of security protocols following multiple breaches that, by chance, did not result in a national disaster.
The Transportation Ministry has rejected responsibility for conducting intelligence background checks on foreign airline pilots, shifting accountability to other security agencies. The black box recorder from the aircraft may provide crucial details about cockpit communications and control inputs during the critical moments of the incident.
