The Democratic Republic of Congo’s public health authority confirmed on Sunday that the Ebola outbreak has spread to an eighth district, Nord-Ubangi, which borders the Central African Republic, according to Walla. This expansion marks a significant escalation in the geographical reach of the outbreak.
Two confirmed cases of Ebola infection were reported in the district on Thursday, though official confirmation from national authorities was delayed until the public health institute’s announcement. The spread to a new district raises concerns about potential cross-border transmission risks, particularly given Nord-Ubangi’s proximity to the Central African Republic.
The expansion of the outbreak to additional regions increases the challenge for containment efforts and public health response coordination in the affected areas.
