Herzog to task would-be PM on Sunday after Eisenkot gains 67 MK recommendations

Breaking

President Isaac Herzog announced he will task a potential prime minister on Sunday following a presidential consultation process. Maj. Gen. (ret.) Gadi Eisenkot received the backing of 67 out of 120 Knesset members, positioning him as a leading candidate to form the next government.

The development marks a significant shift in Israeli coalition politics. The Yashar party has ruled out any coalition with Benjamin Netanyahu, while Yitzhak Liberman reversed his previous boycott of haredi parties and expressed openness to sitting with the United Torah Judaism (UTJ), which notably refrained from recommending the incumbent premier.

The Likud party has called for national unity while dismissing rival blocs as ‘the disaster bloc’. This political manoeuvring suggests ongoing coalition negotiations and attempts to form a governing coalition following recent political developments.
