Israeli health authorities have detected unusually high concentrations of benzene near a refinery complex in Kiryat Ata during maintenance and damage repair work following the war. The Health Ministry announced the closure of two schools in the area for Monday as a precautionary measure.
Residents in the vicinity have been advised to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, whilst workers in the area have been instructed to close windows. The initial measurements detected abnormal benzene levels during routine maintenance operations at the facility.
School operations continued normally on Sunday despite the detection, but authorities moved quickly to suspend classes the following day pending assessment of air quality and potential health risks to students and staff in the affected zone.
