Concern among Jewish-Americans: Why is Biden pushing for a deal in favor of Hamas?

In an article published today (Saturday) in the Jewish-American magazine "Tablet", a question arises as to the conduct of the Biden government vis-à-vis Hamas and Israel. According to reports circulating recently, Israel is planning a military operation in Rafah in order to eliminate the last stronghold of the terrorist organization Hamas in Gaza.

If the reports are accurate, the Netanyahu government is expected to act against the apparent will of the Biden administration, which has invested a lot of effort in recent months to prevent the destruction of the terrorist organization.

The conduct of the White House raises questions, as it seems to believe that the survival of Hamas is more important than the security of Israel – a traditional American ally. In addition, the US apparently prefers the interests of the organization over the regional order under its leadership and even over the lives of American citizens who were taken in the Hamas attack on October 7.

Already the day after the massacre, even before the Israeli attack began, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken expressed support for Turkey's call for a ceasefire. Although the tweet has been deleted, it is clear that the top priority of the US is to prevent Israel from defeating Hamas. This is done by increasing Israel's vulnerability at every step and making aid conditional on taking a defensive position only.

The US even prevented Israel from entering Rafah by demanding plans to protect civilians, insisting that "even the death of one civilian is too many." But given that Hamas hides among civilians, this policy actually strengthens the terrorist organization's military strategy.

While in the past the US vetoed anti-Israel resolutions at the UN, this time it abstained from voting for an immediate ceasefire. In doing so, it provided diplomatic support for Hamas's demand to continue to control Gaza and hold hostages. Also, the US imposed sanctions on Israelis in the West Bank for "crimes" claimed by pro-Palestinian organizations, while ignoring a wave of Palestinian terrorism against Jewish citizens.

American pressure on Israel to supply food and electricity to Gaza effectively broke the blockade and forced it to support its rival in times of war. Also, every time Israel goes on the attack, Israel is threatened with the cessation of arms supplies from the US.

The CIA director has been sent to Egypt, Qatar and other countries to negotiate hostages with Hamas, even when many of them are apparently no longer alive.

The White House increases Hamas propaganda and accuses Israel of deliberately murdering aid workers. Without presenting evidence, government officials began calling the famine in Gaza "reported", even though it was not proven. Thousands of American soldiers are now being sent to build a wharf for supplies to the Strip, making them a human shield against an Israeli attack on Hamas.

With fake leaks, including an internal memo alleging Israeli war crimes, the US is preparing the ground for arrest warrants by the International Court of Justice against senior Israeli officials. It seems that the US has chosen to favor a foreign terrorist organization over the interests of its ally and regional security and stability. This raises concern and difficult questions about American policy in the region in the era of the Biden administration.
