The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported a significant rise in confirmed Ebola cases, with the total now standing at 1,624 infections. The outbreak continues to claim lives, with 521 deaths recorded so far. The figures represent a concerning escalation in what has become one of the most serious Ebola outbreaks in recent years. The virus, which causes severe and often fatal illness characterised by fever, muscle pain and in severe cases, internal and external bleeding, has proven difficult to contain in the vast Central African nation. Healthcare workers and aid organisations have faced considerable challenges in combating the spread, including logistical difficulties, limited medical resources, and security concerns in affected areas. The outbreak has prompted international health authorities to maintain heightened surveillance and coordinate response efforts with Congolese health officials.
