Eisenkot set to receive mandate as Prime Minister with 67 endorsements; plans emergency national unity government

Breaking

Gadi Eisenkot is on track to receive the presidential mandate to form a government, having secured 67 recommendations from Knesset members, significantly ahead of Benjamin Netanyahu’s 46, according to Ynet reporting. The Knesset Chair of the Likud party recommended Eisenkot, with additional members from Likud expected to follow as the recommendation process concludes.

Eisenkot has stated his intention to establish a national emergency unity government if tasked with forming the coalition. Coalition members have signalled strong support, with MK Parkes Cohen declaring that assigning the mandate to Eisenkot would ‘save Israel’. This represents a significant political development following the recent elections.

Meanwhile, civil society voices outside the President’s residence have called for unity government formation, with bereaved parents, evacuees and social movement leaders appealing for Netanyahu and Eisenkot to reach compromise agreements. The political crisis appears to hinge on whether a broader unity coalition can be assembled.
