A diplomatic delegation was attacked by Israeli settlers in the Taybeh area of the West Bank on Saturday during an olive harvest visit, with images showing diplomats on the ground and vehicle damage. According to reports from Times of Israel and Israeli media, settlers also killed approximately 20 sheep in the Palestinian village during the incident.
The IDF condemned the attack as ‘severe’ and noted that the diplomatic delegation did not coordinate their Taybeh visit in advance. Israeli police have launched a formal investigation into the assault, with the case transferred to the Central Unit in the Samaria and Judea district under the command of District Commander Superintendent Moshe Fintz.
The incident comes amid a weekend of violence in the Benjamin area, which also included an attack on a photographer on Friday. Multiple Israeli political figures have denounced the violence, with Ofer Winter’s Knesset party stating that ‘the violence demonstrated by a handful of extremists in Judea and Samaria is severe and deserves every condemnation,’ emphasizing that the perpetrators do not represent West Bank residents.
The attack marks a significant diplomatic incident and reflects ongoing tensions between Israeli settlers and Palestinians, as well as concerns about law enforcement’s ability to control settler violence in the occupied territories.
