Smotrich said he received the decision with regret, describing Sofer as an important voice within Israeli society and the religious Zionist movement.Smotrich highlighted their years of working together on what he characterised as significant endeavours for the Jewish people, the land of Israel, and Jewish law. He praised Sofer’s distinctive and pleasant political style, which had been a hallmark of his public work within the party.In a statement released on Wednesday, the Finance Minister said he respects Sofer’s decision to leave political life. Smotrich expressed confidence that Sofer, whom he described as a “hero of Israel” in both military and civic service, will find new ways to contribute to the State of Israel and what he termed the beginning of Israel’s redemptive growth.
