French Jews arrive in Israel with new identity documents issued mid-flight

A group of 140 new immigrants from France landed in Israel on what organisers called a ‘Family Aliyah Flight’, bringing with them 80 young children, teenagers and adolescents. During the journey, passengers received immigrant certificates and Israeli identification numbers before the aircraft touched down. The move is part of a significant surge in Jewish migration from France to Israel this year, with numbers up by more than 30 per cent compared to the previous year.

The arrivals represent part of a broader trend of French Jewish emigration to Israel, driven by a combination of economic factors and concerns about rising antisemitism in France. The practice of issuing official documentation during the flight itself underscores the Israeli government’s symbolic commitment to the immigration process, treating arrival as the formal moment of integration into Israeli society.

France has historically been home to one of Europe’s largest Jewish communities, but recent years have seen increasing numbers choose to relocate to Israel. The uptick in emigration reflects wider geopolitical tensions and social pressures affecting Jewish communities across Western Europe.
