The Israeli Defence Force announced on Monday that it has killed Abdullah Adnan Taha Abu Al-Tayyif, a senior commander in Hamas’s military wing, during a targeted strike in the Deir al-Balah area of Gaza. The operation was conducted with intelligence support from Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic security agency.
Abu Al-Tayyif held the rank of Nuchba commander within Hamas’s Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. The Nuchba unit is Hamas’s elite commando force, responsible for executing the devastating cross-border attack on October 7th last year that killed approximately 1,200 people and triggered the current conflict in Gaza.
The strike marks another significant operation targeting senior Hamas military figures who participated in the October 7th assault. Israel has pursued numerous operations against Hamas leadership throughout the ongoing campaign in Gaza, with the military regularly announcing the elimination of senior commanders and operatives involved in planning and executing the attack.
