Hackers breach Ukraine civil defence app, send false alerts of chemical, nuclear and radiation threats

Breaking

Hackers have compromised Ukraine’s civil defence alert application, triggering false emergency notifications to residents across Kyiv. The breached system sent alerts warning of imminent chemical attacks, nuclear threats and street combat, with residents instructed to shelter indoors immediately.

Ukrainian authorities quickly responded to contain the panic, issuing statements confirming no actual radiological threat exists and urging residents to remain calm. Officials identified the incident as a cyber attack on the emergency notification system.

Moscow has claimed responsibility for the cyber operation, adding to escalating tensions in the ongoing conflict. The incident represents a significant breach of critical infrastructure used for public safety, occurring amid renewed military activity following the breakdown of ceasefire negotiations.
