IDF detains approximately 50 Haredi draft evaders at Ben-Gurion Airport

Breaking

The IDF’s Military Police detained around 50 Hassidic youths arriving from New York at Ben-Gurion Airport in an operation based on advance notice of their arrival. The Military Police confiscated the passports of several of the detainees.

The operation reflects ongoing tensions between the Israeli military and ultra-Orthodox communities over mandatory military service. The arrests were coordinated in advance, suggesting a deliberate enforcement action against organised draft evasion networks.

This incident represents a significant escalation in the IDF’s enforcement of conscription laws against the Haredi community, which has historically sought exemptions from military service on religious grounds.
