Iran’s National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Razaei has dismissed progress in ongoing negotiations with the United States, describing the American response to Iran’s demands as unconvincing. The statement marks a significant deterioration in diplomatic engagement between the two nations over nuclear matters.
Razaei laid out seven specific conditions that Iran demands the United States fully and explicitly address, warning that failure to do so will result in Iran blocking the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global chokepoint through which approximately one-third of seaborne oil trades. The threat represents a dramatic escalation in rhetoric from Iranian officials.
The rejection comes amid reported assessments by Israeli security officials that military action against Iran may become necessary in the near term. The window for potential action appears linked to the US midterm election cycle, though Israeli officials are also preparing for the possibility of Iranian preemptive strikes.
