Iran’s parliament has approved Mehrdad Akhlachi as the country’s new defence minister, replacing Majid Ebn al-Reza who served in an interim capacity. The appointment follows the killing of then Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh in February, who was struck in what Iran attributes to US-Israeli operations.
The confirmation represents a significant development in Iran’s military leadership structure at a time of heightened regional tensions. Akhlachi’s appointment comes as Iran continues to navigate complex diplomatic and security challenges in the Middle East.
