Israeli evacuation flights from Dubai have encountered a new procedural obstacle as Emirati authorities have introduced a requirement for a separate cargo aircraft to transport passenger luggage, according to Ynet reporting. The restriction prevents passengers from bringing checked baggage on the evacuation flights themselves.
Transport Minister Regan initially announced final approval for the Israeli rescue flights on Tuesday morning, but by afternoon the UAE had presented the new requirement. The development has created delays for Israeli citizens attempting to leave Dubai.
El Al had planned to begin return flights on Wednesday, with Arkia scheduled to commence operations Thursday. However, Flydubai has indicated it will not resume operations for at least two weeks. The new luggage requirement represents a significant complication to the evacuation operation.
