The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) announced on Sunday that it had eliminated two senior Hamas operatives during airstrikes in Gaza last week. The targeted individuals were identified as Muhammad Nagib Ashor, commander of a battalion within Hamas’s military wing, and Tamer Saeed Abu Nahal, who led a cell within the same military structure.
According to the IDF statement, both men were actively involved in planning and coordinating terrorist attacks against Israeli military personnel operating in Gaza. The IDF described the strikes as precision operations carried out after the operatives posed a direct threat to troops on the ground.
The elimination of these commanders represents part of the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, where the IDF has continued targeted strikes against Hamas leadership and military infrastructure. The military said the operations were conducted in response to intelligence suggesting imminent threats from the individuals involved in attack planning.
This announcement comes as Israeli forces maintain their presence in Gaza following the October 2023 attacks. The IDF regularly releases statements regarding the elimination of militant operatives it identifies as planning or carrying out attacks against its personnel and Israeli civilians.
