Israeli passengers successfully prevented a potential aviation disaster when they subdued an Omani co-pilot who attempted to seize control of flydubai flight FZ981 en route to Tel Aviv. Yaniv Hyon, one of the passengers credited with responding to the emergency, recounted the harrowing moments in which he coordinated efforts to secure the cockpit and prevent the aircraft from being diverted.
According to Hyon’s account, the cockpit was left empty at one critical moment, requiring additional pilots among the passengers to take control of the aircraft. The quick thinking and decisive action of those aboard likely prevented a tragedy involving hundreds of lives. Hyon stated his motivation came from thoughts of his wife and daughters on board the flight.
The incident has sparked international attention and raised serious questions about aviation security protocols. The UAE has classified the event as a terror attack, and investigations are underway to determine whether the co-pilot acted alone or was directed by external actors. Israeli officials have begun questioning the co-pilot in the UAE.
