Crew members aboard flydubai flight FZ1073 demanded that Israeli security personnel release a restrained suspect during an in-flight confrontation, according to accounts from passengers involved in the incident. The suspect, identified as co-pilot Mahmoud al-Mahmoud, had been subdued by Israeli officials using plastic restraints and headphones.
Crew members told the Israelis: “You are not God, you will not kill him,” according to Tzvi Manes, one of the passengers credited with helping to resolve the situation, in an interview with the New York Post. The Israeli security team responded by asserting responsibility for the suspect’s safety going forward.
The incident has drawn international attention, with U.S. President Trump publicly praising passenger Yaniv Hayoun for his role in helping to save the flight. Ambassador Mike Huckabee also thanked Hayoun in person and presented him with a signed MAGA hat, indicating the high-profile nature of the incident.
