Lebanese Army fails to prevent Hezbollah return to southern villages as Israeli pullout shows concerning results

Breaking

Approximately three and a half months after the Israeli Defence Forces transferred control of three settlements in southern Lebanon to Lebanese authorities, the situation on the ground has deteriorated significantly, according to Ynet reporting.

Hezbollah has returned to villages that were evacuated, with the militant group’s affiliated aid organisations now providing services to residents. The Lebanese Army has struggled to maintain control and prevent the militant group’s re-establishment in the region.

The concerning developments may force Israel to resume military operations in southern Lebanon, raising questions about the viability of the current arrangement and the effectiveness of Lebanese security forces in maintaining the agreed-upon security arrangements.

The situation represents a critical test of the ceasefire agreement and Lebanon’s capacity to enforce the demilitarisation of its southern territories as required by international agreements.
