Police officers and detectives from the Jezreel Valley district raided a house in the northern village of Reineh after receiving information about a suspected planned attack. During the operation, one of those present allegedly threw a bag from the roof containing approximately 380,000 shekels (around £85,000), which scattered across the area. Officers at the scene described being stunned by the sheer volume of banknotes recovered. “I’ve never seen such an enormous quantity of cash in my entire career,” one officer told investigators.
The dramatic circumstances of the money’s discovery led to comparisons with scenes from a Hollywood blockbuster. The large sum was later traced and recovered by police as they investigated the initial intelligence about a potential security threat.
Lawyers representing those arrested in connection with the incident provided an explanation for the presence of such a substantial amount of cash. They claimed the money was designated for medical treatment of a minor and had been collected and donated by the extended family. The defence team suggested the funds were legitimately gathered for healthcare purposes rather than being connected to any criminal activity.
