An Israel Democracy Institute survey found that a majority of Jewish Israelis back legislation requiring the ultra-Orthodox Haredi community to serve in the military, a long-contentious political issue. The same poll revealed only 25 per cent of Jewish respondents favour negotiations with Palestinians, whilst over half of both Jewish and Arab respondents support strong action against settler violence.
