The reform will allow imports with a minimum of regulation and bureaucracy based on the principle that any product legally sold in Europe can be sold in Israel without going through Israeli standardization or inspection. The goal is that the release of import barriers will increase competition and bring down prices.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich: "The law 'What is good for Europe is good for Israel' is one of the significant steps to lower the cost of living. There is no reason for a complicated bureaucracy in the service of monopolies to be a barrier to imports and increase prices. The rule is that what is good for Europe will be imported to Israel with a minimum of bureaucracy and barriers. This is an excellent law that will affect every citizen in Israel."
