At least 25 bomb threats have disrupted air traffic across Europe, including flights to and from Israel. An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome carrying Israeli passenger Sigal was forced to make an emergency landing at a French military airfield after a distress code was broadcast, according to Ynet. Sigal described the ordeal: “I asked the flight attendant if she was joking. Passengers were shocked to see fighter jets from the window. We descended four times and then took off again.”
In a related incident on Thursday evening, a KLM flight bound for Ben Gurion Airport (Natbag) was diverted and landed in Bucharest, Ynet reports. The coordinated nature of these threats across multiple European airports and routes to Israel suggests a potential organised incident affecting aviation security.
Authorities across European aviation networks are investigating the source of the threats. The incidents have caused significant disruption to international air traffic and raised security concerns for flights servicing Israeli destinations.
