Now it's official: contacts to activate Elon Musk's Starlink service in Israel

The Ministry of Communications announced today (Tuesday) that an activity is taking place to coordinate a Starlink satellite service in Israel, and that there is a promotion of the purchase of satellite devices, for the benefit of the Rabbis and community heads in the settlements along the conflict line. Maariv has learned that this activity is not new, and has been going on for at least two months. The Communications Ministry confirmed, in response to Maariv's question in August, that a work process has begun with Spice X on this issue, and that it will take several months to formulate a position on the matter.

A check on the company's website shows that the State of Israel is expected to need service during the next year, similar to many countries in the region. This is a date that has changed several times, and it is very possible that it depends – apart from internal issues, such as approval by the government and various regulatory matters – also on the date when additional countries will want to join the service, since Israel is a small country and it is possible that from a commercial and economic point of view it is more profitable for the company to wait for additional countries.

As mentioned, the Starlink satellite service of the SpaceX company, which is owned by the billionaire Elon Musk, covers many areas around the world, and enables high-speed Internet access even in areas where the infrastructure is complex. During the last three years, they have been deployed over dozens of countries, with one of the most significant moments in their deployment being their deployment over Ukraine, after the communication infrastructure there was damaged and destroyed due to the war.

The company continues to periodically launch additional satellites, while at the same time countries continue to join the waiting list, so that in the future they can receive deployment of the satellites over their territory.
