UAE authorities have determined that an Omani flydubai pilot intended to crash a Dubai-bound aircraft into Ben-Gurion Airport in a suicide attack, according to findings by the UAE Attorney-General’s office. The investigation uncovered that the pilot, identified as al-Hammami, was inspired by the September 11 attacks and had previously travelled to Israel twice.
According to the Jerusalem Post and Ynet reporting, al-Hammami underwent radicalisation in Australia, where he led a mosque in Melbourne before pursuing a career in aviation. He reportedly received boxing training and demonstrated signs of extremism prior to joining flydubai. The UAE investigators confirmed that al-Hammami met all professional and security requirements at the time of his hiring with the airline.
The discovery represents a significant security threat that was prevented through international coordination. Israeli authorities have been investigating the incident as part of broader counter-terrorism operations targeting potential aviation-related threats to the country’s primary international airport.
