This week, the Economy Committee held another discussion on MK Ofir Katz's bill that deals with electrical connections to residential buildings without a permit in Druze communities, before it was approved for first reading. During the discussion, the participants made claims about the lack of connection between the issue of planning and the issue of connection to electricity and that this should not be the case be related to each other.
The Chairman of the Economic Committee, MK David Bitan , stated: "The purpose of the law is to connect to electricity and not engage in illegal construction, and therefore all trusted parties must assist the electricity company and not create difficulties in connecting to homes. A professional connection is better than the careless and private connection that is carried out today. Because there is no enforcement of the illegal construction in the area."
The CEO of the Electric Company, Meir Spiegler, once again presented the complexity facing the Electric Company, which is now between a rock and a hard place regarding the decision-making on the electricity connections. Spiegler told the members of the committee: "We have exhausted the fruitless discussions. You have to make a brave decision, there is no problem connecting electricity – but let us do what is required for that. The troublesome and fruitless discussions will not lead to a solution to the crisis."
Spiegler added, "Decide once and for all, if the goal is to connect the houses to the electricity grid, then approve it without crazy bureaucracy and regulation. It's time to make a brave and direct decision, to connect electricity without countless conditions and unrealistic demands. Stop playing with me, let's lie to the whole world but Not ourselves. It's time to align and immediately connect all the apartments to electricity. Any other decision is lip service and a shame."
