Qatar demands Iran halt ‘provocative’ attacks after tanker seizure in Hormuz Strait

Qatar’s foreign ministry has condemned Iran’s Revolutionary Guards for intercepting the Qatari oil tanker Al Raqaiyah in the Strait of Hormuz, calling the action a deliberate act of aggression against international maritime safety. A ministry spokesman described the incident as an unacceptable provocation that threatens regional security and the freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
The Qatari government has issued a formal demand that Iran immediately cease what it characterises as hostile practices that endanger international shipping lanes and regional stability. Officials in Doha have made clear they hold Iran fully responsible for the seizure and any damage or consequences resulting from the action.
The incident marks another escalation in tensions within the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-third of the world’s seaborne oil passes. The seizure comes amid broader regional tensions and represents a significant challenge to maritime freedom in the area, with international shipping companies facing increasing uncertainty about safe passage through the waterway.
