Russia-Ukraine conflict escalates with first drone attacks on NATO member Bulgaria’s waters

Breaking

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has escalated to new frontlines with the first recorded drone attacks on commercial shipping in the territorial waters of NATO member Bulgaria, according to Ynet reporting. Unmanned craft attacked two cargo vessels in Bulgarian waters, with one ship sinking and 10 crew members reported missing.

The escalation represents a significant expansion of the maritime conflict, with attacks now targeting NATO member states. A day earlier, a ship was attacked off Romanian waters with the commanding officer killed. On the same day, drone strikes targeted a bridge over the Dnieper River in Ukraine as Kyiv took measures to conceal other bridge infrastructure using netting.

These developments signal a dangerous expansion of the conflict beyond Ukrainian territory, directly threatening NATO allies and potentially triggering broader security implications for the alliance.
