Ukraine’s capital Kiev came under attack early Monday morning in a fresh barrage of Russian missile strikes. According to official reports, a residential building in the Podil district was hit, with residents trapped beneath the rubble between the seventh and ninth floors of the structure.
Kiev’s mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that debris from unmanned aerial vehicles also fell in other districts across the city. Emergency services are understood to be responding to the incident as assessments of the full extent of damage continue.
The strike marks the latest in a series of attacks on Ukraine’s major population centres since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022. Residential areas have repeatedly come under fire throughout the conflict, causing significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction.
