A significant security vulnerability has been uncovered involving the entry of 1,240 foreign staff members from countries that do not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel, according to revelations in the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee. Among the foreign workers who entered Israel this year were nationals from Syria and Lebanon.
The disclosure emerged during committee discussions examining what officials describe as a compounding security oversight. The initial investigation centres on additional layers of the breach, suggesting the scale of the problem extends beyond initially understood parameters.
The Ministry of Transport is conducting a preliminary investigation into how these staff members from hostile nations were permitted entry. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s office has requested immediate corrective measures and an identification of responsible parties within the relevant security and administrative bodies.
The revelation raises serious questions about border security protocols and vetting procedures for foreign workers during a period of heightened regional tensions.
