According to the sources who spoke with the newspaper, Hamas's answers over the weekend frustrated the mediators after the organization rejected some of the proposals it had put forward in the past, which were then adopted by the Israelis. The American side declared this position of Hamas as "unacceptable", and suggested that if Hamas does not really want an agreement – perhaps the negotiations are over. The Israelis and the Americans say that Hamas' answer is unacceptable , but believed that it leaves room for further negotiations. The mediators tried in vague language to resolve the issue of ending the war. According to the agreement, both sides will use the temporary ceasefire to achieve "sustainable peace". However, Hamas wants "sustainable peace" to mean a permanent cessation of hostilities, while Israel does not want to explicitly commit to this.
