Israeli police have arrested a suspect in connection with the contamination of baby food products with sedative and anaesthetic substances. The arrest comes approximately two and a half months after multiple infants were hospitalised displaying symptoms of drowsiness, weakness and lethargy, with blood tests revealing traces of tranquilising medication.

The suspect, a southern resident in his 40s, was arrested on Monday and is scheduled for a remand hearing on Tuesday to determine whether his detention will be extended. Police are continuing their investigation and examining whether additional individuals are involved in the incident.

There is currently no indication this is a nationalist motivated attack. The discovery has prompted concerns about food safety protocols for baby products and the security of infant nutrition supplies.
