The American administration is pressing and continues to promote the possibility of a normalization agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia – this was reported this evening (Thursday) on the American "Wall Street Journal" website.

According to the report, the Biden administration is ready to receive only a "verbal promise" from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he will start new talks on the establishment of a Palestinian state.

It was also reported that the White House is offering Riyadh more formal defense relations with Washington, assistance in the purchase of civilian nuclear energy and a renewed push for a Palestinian state – a package that US officials say they are in the final stages of negotiating.

Senior US officials say the successful effort by many countries to shoot down Iranian missiles and drones on Saturday should make it clear to Israel that its security against threats from Tehran can be strengthened through closer integration with Saudi Arabia.

For President Biden, the bold move offers the possibility of a major diplomatic breakthrough in the middle of a presidential election year, one that would expand on the Abrahamic accords that his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, achieved while in office. The agreements led to the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco.

The chairman of Religious Zionism, Minister of Finance Bezalel Smutritz, responded to the report: "For peace with the peoples of the region. For peace in exchange for peace! We believe that Saudi Arabia also wants this. A Palestinian state is an obstacle to peace and an existential danger to Israel. We will not allow it. Neither in actions nor in statements."
