The Competition Authority summoned Eyal Ravid, the CEO and owner of the Victory retail chain, for a hearing before filing an indictment. This is against the background of public statements by which he tried to reach arrangements to raise prices.
The decision to file an indictment, subject to a hearing, is the result of a complex investigation conducted by the Investigations Department of the Competition Authority regarding suspicions of offenses of carrying out binding arrangements in the food industry in violation of the Competition Law, among other things, through public statements.
According to the suspicion, Ravid signaled to suppliers and retailers, in a series of public statements in the last quarter of 2021, about Victory's desire to raise prices. The Competition Authority's investigation revealed that Ravid's purpose in making these statements was to open the door to the aforementioned price increase.
This affair is the third of the food industry affairs that comes to a hearing before an indictment is filed, and it was preceded by the invitation of the companies Strauss and Williger and their managers to the hearing. The investigation materials were transferred to the legal department of the competition authority, which examines the evidence and suspicions in relation to other factors in the food market, both in violations of the competition law and in violations of the food law. An announcement about the findings of this examination is expected later.
