Trump threatens to resume military operations against Iran as tensions escalate

Breaking

US President Donald Trump declared on Thursday that his administration is considering expanding military action against Iran, stating: “We will now make a decision on whether we want to go much further… and make sure this never happens to the world again.”

Trump indicated ambivalence about further destruction, saying: “I would prefer not to destroy what’s left of the country, if possible, but maybe I’ll have to do it. You’ll know very soon.” This follows earlier military strikes and represents a significant escalation in rhetoric regarding Iran policy.

The threat comes as Israeli and American officials debate strategy post-election. Former Mossad chief Oded Eilam suggests economic pressure is already effective, arguing “all that’s needed is patience,” while security officials like Avner Wilen warn that economic pressure alone cannot stop Iran’s nuclear programme and argue the military option must remain on the table.

The escalating rhetoric over Iran policy is simultaneously fuelling domestic US political pressure, with Democrats targeting Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth over the conflict, though Hegseth has dismissed impeachment attempts as politically motivated retaliation.
