The United States and Israel have developed detailed operational plans for renewed airstrikes against Iran following the US midterm elections on 3 November, according to reports from the New York Times citing American officials involved in the discussions. The planned operation would be a short, intensive campaign potentially lasting approximately three days, targeting nuclear facilities, energy infrastructure, missile systems and drone production capabilities.
Multiple Israeli sources including Walla and Israel Hayom confirm the joint planning, with reports indicating that both militaries have significantly increased training exercises in preparation for a possible rapid military engagement. US officials claim that such strikes could severely damage the Iranian economy and potentially force Tehran to make diplomatic concessions.
However, significant uncertainty remains regarding implementation. American sources told NBC that Israel may have hoped to provoke Iranian retaliation during a recent military exercise involving dozens of combat aircraft flying to within 1,300km of Israel, thereby providing justification for strikes. The timing and scope of any operation would depend on approval from the incoming US administration.
