According to American officials quoted by the Wall Street Journal, Iran obtained high-resolution satellite images from Chinese sources prior to launching an attack on a US military base in northern Jordan that resulted in three American deaths. The timing of the intelligence transfer is stated to have occurred before the strike.

China has denied involvement in providing such imagery to Iran. The US response has been notably restrained, with officials characterising the situation as having “serious consequences” from Chinese support for Iran.

The allegations emerge just weeks before Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit the White House. The Trump administration has signalled that maintaining “good relations” with China remains a top priority, suggesting diplomatic considerations may be tempering any public response to the intelligence claims.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the triangular relationship between the United States, China, and Iran, and the potential for shared intelligence capabilities to escalate regional tensions in the Middle East.
