US Treasury sanctions network funding Hamas through cryptocurrency channels

Breaking

The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against a network facilitating fundraising for Hamas’s military wing, disrupting operations that have been active since 2020. The sanctioned network includes one operative from Hamas’s military branch, two fundraisers operating from France, and two charities involved in channelling funds to the designated terror organisation.

According to Israel Hayom, the network raised approximately 1.5 million dollars following the October 7 attacks, which were subsequently transferred to Hamas using cryptocurrency channels disguised as humanitarian aid for Gaza. The US Treasury characterised Hamas as exploiting public sympathy to sustain its operations.

US Treasury officials stated: “Hamas exploits the public to maintain its activities,” highlighting the interconnection between Hamas’s terror operations and its use of international financial networks masked as charitable assistance.
