Yariv Levin admits: "I do not believe in the possibility of reaching agreements with the opposition"

In the coalition there is a sharp disagreement regarding the right line to lead towards the election of Knesset representatives in the committee for the selection of judges. Sources who spoke with Justice Minister Yariv Levin heard from him that he does not believe in the possibility of reaching any agreements with the opposition as part of the talks on legal reform at the President's House.

According to them, he even made a proposal: "If it turns out that there are no agreements, the two coalition representatives should be voted for to bring the situation to the height of absurdity, and then return to the unilateral legislation of the composition of the committee for the selection of judges."

The members of the "reform camp" within the coalition say that a clear ultimatum must be presented to the opposition: if during the two weeks remaining until the elections of the Knesset representatives to the committee, agreements are not reached (legislation of one or two sections of the reform by the end of the summer conference and the agreement to postpone the rest of the sections of the reform for six months to a year ), the coalition must choose two representatives on its behalf. The opposition strongly rejects the demand, and claims that the election of the two coalition representatives will automatically lead to an explosion in the reform talks.

In the meantime, protest actions against the legal reform continue both in Israel and abroad. Dozens of Israelis living in New York arrived last night at the entrance of the hotel where Economy Minister Nir Barkat is staying, who arrived in the city as part of a delegation of ministers and Knesset members who are supposed to take part in a march for Israel next week. The great hideout of Manhattan began, and Nir Barkat got off the plane straight to the car to avoid a protest at the airport and then was smuggled through a side entrance to the secret hotel, which he took so much trouble that we wouldn't know about it," noted the protestors who were near the hotel. At the same time, as usual on Saturday night, demonstrations are expected tomorrow as well Against the legal reform in about 150 centers throughout the country.
