A man was shot and killed in the Gilboa area in the north of Israel early this morning. Emergency services received reports of a shooting at approximately 6am and paramedics from Magen David Adom (Israel’s ambulance service) rushed to the scene. They attempted to resuscitate the victim before transporting him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. This killing marks the latest in a series of gun violence incidents affecting Israel’s Arab communities. According to figures released this year, 158 people have been murdered within Arab society in Israel since the beginning of 2024, highlighting an ongoing crisis of violence in these communities. The escalating death toll has prompted calls from community leaders and human rights organisations for increased police presence and intervention to tackle the root causes of gang-related and criminal violence.
