France has responded to Lebanon’s request to cancel a decision made last year to disband the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) in the country. The move was discussed at the UN Security Council, with the United States firmly opposing the reversal, stating: “We will not repeat past mistakes.” A UN coordinator in Beirut claimed Hezbollah refuses to disarm its weapons due to the Israeli threat, whilst Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib faces security warnings and has not been attending his office.
