Israeli security personnel successfully neutralised a co-pilot who attempted to attack the captain on Emirates flight FZ1073 from Dubai, according to multiple Israeli sources. The incident occurred after crew members and Israeli security agents physically restrained the assailant, identified as Mahmoud Al-Mahmoud, using headphones and plastic restraints.
Crew members initially demanded the Israeli security personnel release the assailant, with reports indicating cabin crew told them ‘you are not God, you will not kill him.’ However, Israeli security maintained control, with one of the Israeli heroes involved, Zvika Meness, stating to the New York Post: ‘From now on, we are responsible.’
Multiple reports reveal that Al-Mahmoud had a history of concerning behaviour at previous employers, with warnings documented that were not acted upon. Despite these red flags, he was subsequently hired by Emirates, raising serious questions about the airline’s recruitment procedures and due diligence protocols.
The incident represents a significant security threat that was prevented through swift action by Israeli personnel on board the aircraft. The assailant’s background and motivations remain under investigation.
