Woman dies of suspected plague in Siberia; entire hospital quarantined as concern grows in Russia

Breaking

A 28-year-old woman has died in eastern Siberia with suspected plague following a laboratory accident, triggering widespread concern in Russia about disease transmission, according to Israel Hayom.

The woman died after a test tube containing the plague bacterium allegedly broke in the laboratory where she worked. Approximately 200 individuals who came into contact with her have been transferred to medical supervision.

In response to the suspected plague case, an entire hospital has been placed under quarantine. Plague is a historical pandemic that killed between one quarter and one half of Europe’s population in the mid-14th century.

The incident underscores serious biosafety concerns and the potential risks posed by laboratory accidents involving dangerous pathogens.
