Major Maxim Harkin, an IDF officer who was held captive by Hamas for 738 days in Gaza, has revealed details about communications regarding hostage negotiations that were monitored through Al-Jazeera. The disclosure comes one year after his release from captivity.
According to Harkin’s account, he heard statements suggesting that the IDF chief of staff indicated to captives that they would remain in Gaza for extended periods. The officer also described the moment fighting erupted, recalling intense missile fire at 6:29am which made it immediately clear that war had begun.
Harkin’s testimony provides firsthand insight into conditions in captivity and communications about hostage negotiations during the conflict.
