Israeli security services have travelled to the United Arab Emirates to interrogate an Omani FlyDubai pilot suspected of planning to crash an aircraft. According to reports from multiple Israeli sources, the pilot allegedly intended to destroy the plane at Ben Gurion Airport, with a contingency plan to crash it at a U.S. military base in Jordan if unsuccessful in Israeli airspace.
The Shin Bet investigation has revealed that the suspect visited multiple hostile countries in recent years, including Syria. However, the leading assessment is that he acted as a lone wolf rather than being recruited by any organised group or terror organisation.
Oman’s civil aviation authority has acknowledged that the country failed to verify the identities of pilots entering Israel, raising significant security concerns about aviation screening procedures. The pilot was found to be unfit to fly according to reports, yet this status was concealed from authorities.
