A delight for audiophiles: Momentum True Wireless 4 headphones review

It's been two years since I reviewed the previous generation of the Momentum True Wireless, when the new model of the wireless headphones from the German manufacturer Sennheiser came to refresh its successful headphones. The launch price remains more or less the same – NIS 1,300 (through the official importer – Shochat Sel Hamiz). As you can understand from the price, the Momentum True Wireless 4 comes to compete in the premium category, such as Sony's WF-1000XM5 or Bang & Olufsen's Beoplay EX.

Review: Ekster Grid Backpack is the backpack for technology enthusiasts

Design and control: Momentum True Wireless 4 – identical and comfortable design
The appearance of the MTW 4 remains the same as the previous generation, with the slight differences being in the case, the logo is stamped in silver color instead of white and also the fabric that wraps the carrying case would have seemed a little darker to me. Other than that, we get the same comfortable design of the headphones. It is a rectangular external structure with rounded corners and also rubber straps with a delicate fin structure, which keep the headphones more stable in the ears.

The protection of the headphones has improved and it comes here with the IP54 standard instead of IPX4, this means that the headphones are still equally protected against moisture, but now they also have protection against dust penetration. The carrying case remains the same in size, which means it's still big. Those who drive like me, to keep the case in their pants pocket while they use them on the street, will find it a little less convenient.

Sound and calls: Momentum True Wireless 4 – high quality surround sound
Sennheiser has packed these headphones with a host of technologies: up-to-date Bluetooth 5.4, connection to two devices at the same time, Qualcomm's S5 Sound Gen 2 platform that allows the headphones to support Snapdragon Sound technology, which includes support for lossless audio format. Sound support at this level is available in some streaming services, such as Apple Music (not on Spotify). This way you can enjoy high sound quality and make good use of your headphones.

It is worth noting that the headphones also offer support for codecs such as aptX Lossless and aptX Adaptive Audio (the latter codec comes to offer better stability when connecting in places crowded with wireless devices and also lower latency). In addition, they include support for low latencies, for example in games.

Sennheiser plans to add via a firmware update support for Bluetooth LE with LC3 that improves the efficiency of power consumption while preserving audio quality. Another feature that will be added is Auracast which allows connection to public audio devices, for example, a TV located in the doctor's waiting room. In terms of sound, Sennheiser is proud of its sound signature and indeed it has reason to be proud, the audio quality is simply great with a sound that managed to envelop me, a well-perceived bass, great detail and a warm feeling when listening to them.

The headphones include 7 mm drivers, when they include the company's TrueResponse technology which comes to solve problems of distortion at high listening volume. An equally important point is conducting phone calls with the MTW 4, I did not encounter any problems with them in calls, both on the street and in the office near people or in quiet places.

The headphones have 3 microphones in each of them, which enable the good quality of phone calls. These microphones are also designed for the active noise cancellation technology (ANC) which worked well, although it is not the highest filtering quality available. This is about adaptive ANC, which means automatic adjustment to the noise in the environment and increasing or decreasing the filter strength. What was missing here was the ability to manually select the filter strength. Yes, there is a wind noise neutralization mode here, which, although a little less noise filtering, manages to filter the wind noise.

Battery: Momentum True Wireless 4 – about 30 hours of music
Listening time here is very respectable – 7.5 hours of music with ANC working and a total of 30 hours with the carrying case. For fast charging headphones – 8 minutes provide an hour of music. There is also wireless charging.

Price: NIS 1,300 (Official importer – Shochat Sel Hamahim).

Bottom line, the Momentum True Wireless 4 don't come with the most comfortable carrying case and the ANC isn't the best either, but the sound quality of these headphones is a delight for audiophiles. They have a great sound with a comfortable design in the ears, a lot of technologies and a long battery time.
