AI knows everything about relationships—but it has no heart

Artificial intelligence has become remarkably sophisticated at understanding the dynamics of romantic partnerships, potentially surpassing the insights of many professional psychologists. According to legal expert Benny Don-Ychia, AI systems can articulate relationship advice with impressive clarity and often provide genuinely helpful guidance to couples navigating difficulties. The technology excels at identifying patterns, offering practical solutions, and communicating in ways that resonate with users seeking support.

Yet for all its intellectual prowess, AI fundamentally lacks the lived experience of love. It has never felt the vulnerable intensity of romantic attachment, never experienced the disappointment of unmet expectations, and has no emotional reservoir from which to draw understanding. This raises an important question: can advice truly be complete when it comes from a system that has never felt the emotions it is discussing?

Don-Ychia suggests that whilst AI can serve as a valuable tool for couples, it cannot replace the human element essential to relationship counselling. The technology may help identify issues and suggest solutions, but the emotional intelligence—the ability to truly empathise with another person’s heartbreak, joy, or uncertainty—belongs exclusively to humans. For matters of the heart, the question is not whether AI can help, but whether its inherent emotional absence makes it an incomplete guide for one of life’s most deeply human experiences.
